The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is a comprehensive framework of India’s traditional knowledge that spans thousands of years. It encompasses a wide array of disciplines, blending science, philosophy, art, and culture into a holistic way of life. IKS not only reflects India’s rich intellectual heritage but also offers sustainable solutions to modern-day challenges.
Relevance of IKS in the Modern World :
-
Sustainability: Ancient practices offer eco-friendly solutions for climate change and resource management.
-
Health & Wellness: Natural healing systems like Ayurveda and Yoga support holistic well-being.
-
Innovation: Timeless ideas inspire modern technologies in architecture, engineering, and design.
The IKS includes many scripts like .....
The Vedas and Upavedas :
The Vedas are the most ancient and profound scriptures of Indian civilization, serving as the bedrock of spiritual, philosophical, and scientific knowledge. Composed in Sanskrit and the timing of the original text is UNKNOWN. The four Vedas—Rigveda (hymns and praises), Yajurveda (rituals and ceremonies), Samaveda (chants and melodies), and Atharvaveda (medicine and everyday life)—offer a comprehensive understanding of existence, nature, and the cosmos. The Upavedas extend this wisdom into practical disciplines: Ayurveda (medicine and health sciences), Dhanurveda (military science and warfare), Gandharvaveda (music, art, and aesthetics), and Sthapatyaveda (architecture and engineering). There are more than a thousand of Upanishads at end of vedas that give self awareness. Together, they reflect a sophisticated integration of science, art, and spirituality, guiding holistic living and societal harmony.
The Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Shastra:
The Bhagavad Gita, a sacred dialogue between Lord Krishna and the warrior Arjuna in the epic Mahabharata, is a cornerstone of Indian philosophy. It addresses the complexities of duty, morality, and self-realization, offering timeless wisdom on living a life of purpose and balance. Its teachings on Karma Yoga (selfless action), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), and Jnana Yoga (knowledge) provide a universal path to inner peace and fulfillment. Complementing this, the Yoga Shastra, especially through Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, presents yoga as an eightfold path (Ashtanga Yoga) combining ethical living, physical discipline, and mental focus. These texts collectively inspire personal transformation, mindfulness, and spiritual awakening, guiding humanity toward harmony and liberation (Moksha).
the Other Core Areas of the Indian Knowledge System are Science and Mathematics, Medicine and Wellness, Architecture and Engineering, Arts and Culture, Environmental Sustainability etc
